A Royal Exhibition

What with the Queen’s birthday this month, celebrated as the longest reigning English monarch, and the imminent birth of a royal baby, it seemed a good time to be assembling a new exhibition on Pembroke’s Royal connections.
Pembroke has the distinction of being the birthplace not only of a King but of a dynasty.  Born in Pembroke Castle in 1457 Henry VII was to return to Pembrokeshire 28 years later to seize the Crown at Bosworth in 1485 defeating Richard Plantagenet (a king who is receiving such acclaim at the present time).
Our latest exhibition (in Pembroke Town Hall’s Civic Hall) looks at our Royal connections through time.  While in the distant past Pembroke was of great national importance ruled by the Earls of Pembroke and visited by Kings, in our more recent history it was Pembroke Dock which attracted royalty.  When called upon to attend the launch of an eminent ship at the Dockyard, Royal guests visited the old town as well.  We have of photographs dating as far back as 1882 when the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited Pembroke following their official duty at Pembroke Dock.
