The event in Pembroke Town Hall drew a large audience

Kathleen & May was the subject of Saturday’s meeting of the Pembroke & Monkton Local History Society at Pembroke Town Hall, an event we shared with the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society.  It certainly proved to be very popular.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the name, the Kathleen & May is a ship which local people hold in great affection as she was the very last coastal trader to come to Pembroke.  Once ships were a familiar sight in Pembroke plying the coastal trade: the sea was a main highway, and all around Britain ships would sail along the coast and up river estuaries to trade their cargoes.  Her last journey was in 1961 but she is still remembered. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who may have photos of her in Pembroke all those years ago - we have but a few.
