OUR AGM 2017
We had a great attendance to our AGM last Friday - I am posting our Annual Report on our website. Dr Simon Hancock gave a really interesting talk on 'Witchcraft in 17th Century Pembrokeshire'. He is certainly one of the best speakers we have had - everyone enjoyed it.

OUR AGM - FEBRUARY 17TH
Our AGM will take place in Monkton Church Hall on Friday, February 17th at 7.30pm.
Following business, there will be a talk by Simon Hancock on 'Witchcraft in 17th Century Pembrokeshire'. All invited, non members welcome. Free entry.
Looking ahead to March, on Saturday March 4th we will be holding our annual St David's Lunch at Monkton Church Hall, which is always a popular event. Really good value at £5 as it includes soup, crusty bread, a sweet and coffee! To start off the morning there will be a talk with a suitably Welsh content 'The Princes of Wales' at 11am. Lunch will then be served between 12 and 1.30. We will open at 10.30 for those wishing to have a coffee and chat before we begin.
YEAR OF LEGENDS - February 4th
On Saturday February 4th we celebrated the Year of Legends 2017 with a performance by professional story teller Phil Okwedy who entertained his audience some of those legends connected to our Welsh landscape. This took place in Pembroke Town Hall and drew a large audience.

JANUARY 7th - New Year gets off to a Good Start!
Pembroke & Monkton Local History Society’s first meeting of 2017 began with a New Year’s Get-together at Monkton Church Hall. It was an occasion for reminiscing, looking back on times past with old photos and film clips. It was also an opportunity to meet Diana Ford of the National Theatre Wales TEAM. Accompanied by her colleague Wayne Boucher who photographed the event, Diana introduced the Monkton Sound Project which aims to record stories of Monkton people. The TEAM is an outreach branch of the National Theatre Wales, and offers a platform to connect with communities across the country through events and projects. The Sound Project involves getting people to tell and record their stories and recall stories of local characters, past or present, who have perhaps done something extraordinary or funny and become local legends.
Following on from this, the TEAM will be holding meetings in Monkton Swifts and offering free script and performance workshops. Having collected and recorded stories, some will be turned into scripts to be adapted into plays which will be performed. The History Society is happy to help with this exciting project and was pleased with the good response at Saturday’s meeting. Thanks to everyone who provided cakes and helped with serving the coffee.
