Our Next Event - April 10th

Our next event is a talk on the history of St Mary's Church by Linda Gray and will take place on April 10th.
Meet in the Church at 10.30 am - coffee is being supplied! There is no fee but please could you make a voluntary contribution to the Church? This would be much appreciated.
I am arranging a lunch (optional) at the Kings Arms afterwards - if you want to join us could you please let me know beforehand?

Change of advertised date for next Monkton Event

At our meeting on Monday we discovered that we had double booked the Church Hall and will not now be holding our next Monkton History Event and tour of Monkton Priory on April 24th as has already been publicised. This will take place the following Bank Holiday Monday, May 3rd 10.30 am to 1 pm.
However, we will still be present at the Church Hall on that date in support of the Help for Heroes table top sale. So if anyone does come along to see us we will be there and will have our scanning equipment with us to scan any photos.

Funding Success!

I am pleased to be able to report that we have been successful in gaining funding from WCVA's Community Trust Fund to equip us with IT equipment and software for our projects. No more need now to rush around and borrow!!
We are still in need of display boards so am still on the hunt for more money!!!
Stuart and I have been shopping today to PC World and have bought a laptop, colour laser printer, backup harddrive. The rest of the equipment we need including a voice recorder and projector we are ordering from the internet. Happy days!

Pembroke Civic Trust Talk

Next Monday (22nd March 7.30) George Lewis will be talking to Pembroke Civic Trust about his amazing murals which can be seen in Pembroke Town Hall. George is a brilliant and enthusiastic speaker and probably knows more about the sweep of our history than anyone. Not to be missed!

Monkton History Day

So many people responded to our appeal for information, photos and memories of old Monkton. We held a very successful coffee morning and exhibition in the Church Hall and were delighted with your response. The highlight of the morning was a walk through Monkton with Pauline, Vera and Dot who were able to tell us about the old community, who lived there and where the shops and business were. We learnt that Monkton was very much a close community where everyone knew each other and how, because there were so many shops you didn’t even have to go to town to do your shopping. Their memories were recorded along the way.
We are planning to have a follow up event at the end of next month.
Thanks to Monkton Communities First (for printing photos and posters), West Wales Maritime Heritage Society( for loan of display boards) and PAVS (for IT equipment).
Thanks to Gwen Griffiths for the photos.

Frank Harries

On Friday March 12th Frank Harries entertained with tales of his life experiences.

The Committee wish to thank Pembroke Town Council for the gift of a laptop and printer which was no longer needed in their office. We certainly will make good use of it! Thanks also to the Town Clerk Mr Hugh Colley for putting forward our request.
