18th May - Museum Volunteers visit Chapel Bay Fort

Today our Museum Volunteers visited Chapel Bay Fort, Angle. One of our volunteers, John Charnock, is also a volunteer and trustee of Chapel Bay Fort and he kindly gave us a most interesting guided tour. So knowledgeable! Chapel Bay Fort is one of a series of forts built as part of the defence of the Haven, built in 1891 and the first fortification (so John informs us) to be built of mass concrete. George Geear has certainly done an amazing job of restoration and has amassed an impressive collection of armaments. After the tour we were able to wander around the museum - followed by a visit to the cafe. The coffee is recommended!!

17th May - Quiz Night

17th May - Moving the Museum

We've had an exhausting time moving Pembroke Museum out of the old Courtroom, then putting it back together again! This is because some Town Council insist on holding Mayor Making there - a ceremony which lasts all of 20 minutes!  Our dedicated band of volunteers have put in a great many hours as you can imagine and only sorry that the museum has had to be closed down for a whole fortnight. Open again on Monday, May 20th

All back together again!!

Pembroke Civic Awards - April 25th

 A well deserved award to Judy and StJohn Stimson at Civic Awards Evening for their generosity to Pembroke Museum. Thanks to them we have a fine collection of Welsh Costume, a lovely collection of 18th and 19th century prints ( many framed) and they have contributed also to our popular collection of toys.  Judy and StJohn owned the Museum of the Home in Pembroke Main Street  but, when they retired, Pembroke lost its museum,  However, once we began our Museum in the Town Hall a few years ago, they donated many artefacts without which our museum (which we began from scratch) would not be the success it has now become.

Ted's Book Launch - A great success!

On Saturday 20th April. the Book Launch for Ted Owens' book 'Ted, the Welsh Goat Hero' was held at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, hosted by the Sunderland Trust - and a great occasion it turned out to be!  It was heartwarming that so many turned up to enjoy a truly lovely afternoon. WW2 Veteran Ted Owens is 94 years old.: the last surviving member of 41 Commando which stormed Sword Beach in France on D-Day 6th June 1944. It is the 75th anniversary of D-Day this year.

The book costs just £8 and can be purchased from the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre and Pembroke Museum (Pembroke Town Hall) or direct from our website  for £10 to include p&p).

Ted Owens' Book Launch on Saturday April 20th

We are proud to announce that we have published Ted Owens' memoirs which will be launched on Saturday 20th April. Ted Owens is 94 years old.: the last surviving member of 41 Commando which stormed Sword Beach in France on D-Day 6th June 1944. It is the 75th anniversary of D-Day this year.

The Sunderland Trust are kindly hosting the Book Launch at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre. It will commence at 1pm. – Ted will be signing copies of his book until 4pm.

Entry to the Centre is free for the event.

Father Gildas of Caldey Island gave the last talk of the present programme. A great response - the Church Hall was packed!
